We at the University of Minnesota Medical School seek to educate engaged and passionate future physicians, committed to improving patients' care and health care. And we are committed to preparing you for the best of all professions.

Our Medical School is thriving in the midst of exciting changes. The revolution in molecular medicine, genomics, and proteomics will have profound effects on how patients are diagnosed and treated. Digital technology also is transforming medicine and medical education. And changes in health care delivery systems are significantly impacting the way medicine is practiced.

Our Medical School embraces these shifts, anticipates future changes, and holds fast to those core values in medicine that will not change—compassion, understanding, and commitment. With our diverse and flexible curriculum, we address health and wellness as well as respect for the individuality of each patient and of each learner.

Admissions Mission Statement

The Office of Admissions carries out the admissions process in a manner that is equitable, efficient, and timely. Services provided by the Office of Admissions are responsive to the needs of prospective applicants, applicants, undergraduate pre-medical advisors, referring institutions, Medical School faculty and administrators, and external constituents including the Board of Regents, the Minnesota State Legislature and the Association of American Medical Colleges.

In fulfilling its mission, the Office of Admissions will:

  • Maintain the integrity of the admissions process.
  • Provide information to applicants in a caring, timely, and confidential manner.
  • Admit applicants who exemplify the medical profession’s values and standards.
  • Enhance the diversity of the Medical School student body.
  • Develop innovations to meet the educational mission of the University of Minnesota Medical School.

The assistant dean of Admissions, in collaboration with the Admissions Committee, interacts with the staff of the Office of Admissions, administrative units within Medical Education, the Medical School administration, the Education Council, other faculty committees as appropriate, campus-wide offices, and the American Association of Medical Colleges.

The Office of Admissions is committed to providing the highest level of service and professionalism to the University of Minnesota Medical School and its constituencies.
