Description

This course is appropriate for medical students interested in pursuing Dermatology as a career. Students will gain further experience in all aspects of dermatology, including medical dermatology, dermatologic surgery, pediatric dermatology and dermatopathology. Students must have prior knowledge of lesion description and diagnoses of common dermatologic conditions. The rotation will have greater emphasis on differential diagnoses, diagnostic tests and management ideas. Students will participate in patient discussions, presentation in clinics, dermatology resident didactic sessions and journal clubs. Students will generate differential diagnoses, diagnostic tests and management plans for common dermatologic conditions and will participate in Grand Rounds discussions. Students will be required to give an oral presentation (8 minutes) of a research interest or a dermatologic condition of interest. Students will meet with the Residency Program Director(s) and/or Department Chair regarding the advising and application process.

Goals and Objectives

Students will gain further experience in dermatology and exposure to subspecialties in dermatology. Students will understand the pathophysiology of dermatologic conditions. This course will prepare students for the dermatology residency application process.

Evaluation

Formal evaluation will be done in the E-value system. There will be end-of-the-rotation feedback from the course director. Students will be evaluated on their potential to be an outstanding resident and dermatologist.
