Opportunity for Medical Education Scholarship

MedEdPORTAL is a Web-based tool that promotes collaboration across disciplines and institutions by facilitating the exchange of peer-reviewed educational materials, knowledge, and solutions. By extending the AAMC Group on Educational Affairs (GEA's) CACHE (Competencies Across the Continuum of Health Education) framework, MedEdPORTAL will serve as a central repository of high quality educational materials such as PowerPoint presentations, assessment materials, virtual patient cases, and faculty development materials.

MedEdPORTAL (AAMC)
Free publishing venue and dissemination portal to support educators and learners as they create and use on-line teaching materials, assessment tools and faculty development resources.

Learning

Faculty / Medical Educator Workshops
Workshops and short courses featuring presentations by leaders in medical education, and offering opportunities for skill-building and sharing of ideas among faculty who teach medical students. All workshops are free and held on the University of Minnesota's East Bank Campus. Provided by the Medical School Office of Education.

Resident Educator Development (RED)
An important part of residents’ job is that of educator. Residents teach medical students, patients, and each other. In order to be effective teachers, residents need to be equipped with teaching skills—important skills that may not have been covered in their own medical school training. Sponsored by the University of Minnesota Medical School Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office and the Medical School Office of Education.

Continuing Medical Education
Serving the educational needs of physicians and lifelong students of medicine through its annual series of programs taught by faculty in various disciplines in the Medical School and by guest faculty from around the world. Instructional methods include lectures, workshops, laboratories, live cases, panels, seminars, and individual instruction. The emphasis is on high-quality education and practical, up-to-date content.

Biomedical Library Classes
Topics include MEDLINE, PubMed, Evidence Based Health Care, basic database searching, information resources, and web/software technology.

Digital Media Center
The DMC staff collaborates with collegiate and other central support units to promote the effective use of educational technologies at the University of Minnesota and to support faculty members who use these technologies to improve teaching and learning.

AHC Learning Commons
The AHC Learning Commons is a friendly and informal place for faculty to learn about and develop new ways of teaching – especially those supported by information technologies. For students and residents, it's a place to practice new ways of learning – such as clinical decision-making, problem-based learning, and evidence-based practice – and to use information acquisition skills and technologies

The AHC Office of Education collaborates with AHC faculty and members of the Minnesota community to introduce innovations in health care education.

simPORTAL (Simulation PeriOperative Resource for Training and Learning)
The primary simulation training “portal” for the procedurally-oriented departments within the Medical School. It arranges for space, equipment, technical and logistical support for educational activities involving technical skills and team training via simulation. It also supplies research and evaluation capacity to support innovation in simulation equipment, tools, and processes as well as training curricula.

Faculty Technology Resource Center
(Digital Media Center, DMC)
Promotes the innovative use of learning technologies at the University of Minnesota and supports faculty who aredeveloping multimedia (including Internet) teaching and learningprojects. The center is partner in the nonprofit New MediaCenters program that helps institutions of higher education around the world enhance teaching and learning through the use of new media. In addition to the DMC instructional multimedia consultants, the DMC is staffed and supported by the University Libraries and ADCS.
