Students
Minnesota's Future Doctors are interested in science and they are interested in helping people. We seek applicants who have successfully completed their first year at a college or university and who are interested in becoming a doctor and serving Minnesota's diverse urban and rural communities. This is an intense program, taking place over three summers, that requires commitment from those who enroll. Individuals apply in January or February of their first or freshman year of college.
The first summer's six-week curriculum includes discussions of everything from health disparities to brain surgery, presentations by doctors and patients, and case studies and problem-solving sessions.
Successful applicants gain opportunities to:
- Explore the lives of doctors
- Understand medical school
- See the clinic experience from a professional's point of view
- Learn about college enrichment classes
- Be exposed to service projects and volunteering
- Meet new, smart friends
- Encounter brilliant mentors
- Learn to use E-portfolios
In addition, successful applicants are provided with free housing and meals, as well as a $1,650 stipend.
Applicants must have:
- One completed year of college-level coursework
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
- Ability to speak, read and write English at the college level
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.8
