Visiting Professorships
Visiting
professors can both educate and stimulate students, residents, and faculty during their
visits. The National ΑΩΑ provides the opportunity each
year for thirty chapters to host visiting professors for several days of activities,
including grand rounds, meetings with small groups of students, and delivery of a
lecture. The National ΑΩΑ's goal is to make visiting
professorships available each year to all chapters.
The ΑΩΑ Chapter at the University of Minnesota Medical School was honored to have Dr. Edward D. Harris, Jr., MACP as a visiting professor on December 5 and 6, 2007. Dr. Harris is the George DeForest Barnett Professor, Emeritus, for the Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Executive Secretary for Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society as Editor of the society's publication, The Pharos. Dr. Harris was selected this year to receive the American College of Rheumatology's highest award, the Presidential Gold Medal, in recognition of outstanding achievements in rheumatology over an entire career.
