A reasonably competitive candidate should have the following:

Basic Science Honors:
For selection, honors in basic science is: less important

USMLE Step 1 Boards: score at least 50%
For selection, the Step 1 score is: very important

USMLE Step 2 Boards:
For selection, an appropriate Step 2 score is: less important

Research experience: should have
Honors in specialty rotation: should have

Honors in core clerkships: should have

Election to AOA: should have

Other Selection Factors:

There are about 1.1 students applying for every one position.
