A reasonably competitive candidate should have the following:
Basic Science Honors: optional
USMLE Step 1 Boards: a score of 200 or better (or competitive score for that testing year)
USMLE Step 2 Boards: A passing, competitive score for that testing year.
For selection the Step 2 score should be reported no later than: December
Research experience: optional
For selection, medical school research experience is: a plus
Research should be in the specialty area: yes
Honors in specialty rotation: should have taken an advanced course
Honors in core clerkships: should have
Election to AOA: is optional
For selection, membership in AOA is: a plus
Other Selection Factors:
Maturity, ability to work in a team setting, demonstration of good people skills and someone who genuinely likes people.
