Internet ID (X.500) Activation & Password Retrieval
If your X500 Intenet ID does not work for you, it is most likely one of these two cases:
- you do not have the correct password
- you have not initialized your account
Password Help
You must either call 612-301-4357 and disclose your Social Security Number, or go to one of the walk-in locations (below) and present a photo identification card. Passwords cannot be reset via e-mail.
Initializing Your Internet Account
You can initialize your account online at http://www.umn.edu/initiate You will be asked for your Social Security Number, UofM ID Number, and Birthdate. If you do not have, or do not want to disclose your Social Security number, you can visit a walk-in location and present a photo identification card.

St. Paul: 50 Coffey Hall at 1420 Eckles Ave
Regular Walk-in Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00
